Ken Jones, president and chief executive officer of the 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee, shed light on fundraising for the Republican National Convention during his presentation at a Hillsborough County Hotel and Motel Association meeting on Thursday.
Regarding the Host Committee?s $55 million fundraising goal, Jones said the nonprofit had raised ?tens and tens and tens of millions of dollars.?
The money is coming from a mix of Florida and national donors.
The Host Committee will disclose the donors on Oct. 15, when it reports its fundraising activity and expenditures pursuant to federal law.
To give the audience an idea of the types of companies that donate hefty dollar amounts to political conventions, Jones shared a list of donors to the 2008 RNC in St. Paul, Minn.
Qwest, Cisco and Minnesota-based retail companies Target and Best Buy were major donors to that convention, among others.

Roughly 50,000 people are expected in Tampa for the RNC the week of Aug. 27, although some have forecast a turnout closer to 60,000, Jones said.
About 100 people attended the luncheon event at the Crowne Plaza Tampa Westshore.
