British renewable energy company RES has signed an agreement with the leading telecommunications provider BT to develop a new wind farm in Northumberland, England.? The agreement covers a site situated approximately 10km north west of Morpeth.
The agreement is the first such partnership between RES & BT. It marks a unique opportunity for RES to apply its considerable wind farm development experience in partnership with a major UK company. BT is one of the UK?s top-10 electricity consumers and wants to continue to support reliable sources of renewable energy, providing long term energy supply and demonstrating its commitment to being a responsible and sustainable business leader.
Both companies had previously identified the site in Northumberland as being suitable for a wind farm development.? The new agreement means that RES will now take responsibility for progressing the project and producing a full planning application.
Daniel Leahy, the RES Project Manager who helped to finalise the agreement, says: ?RES has more than 30 years experience to bring to this project and we are very excited to be working with BT. We look forward to developing a successful wind farm scheme that will generate a considerable amount of clean, green electricity.
?BT should be commended for its proactive commitment to renewable energy.? We hope that other major organisations will follow their lead in seeking innovative ways to work with the renewable energy sector to ensure that together we can secure the energy generation capacity this country needs to maintain growth and prosperity in the future.?
RES has already begun initial scoping work and details about the size and layout of the development will be made available to the local community as part of a comprehensive public consultation in due course.
