Online shopping, Facebook and Twitter are terms firmly embedded in the vocabulary of everybody and anybody, from the youth to the media. With the evolution of online newspapers, magazines and books, some paper-based publications have unfortunately been usurped, as the digital market becomes more powerful.
Undoubtedly, businesses should follow this example and consider the benefits of social media and e-commerce, if they want to stay current and adapt to an ever-changing digital market. Here are a few ways in which businesses can increase their revenue and revolutionise the way they keep their customers updated.
1) Create A Website
Your business should be easy to Google and have a prominent presence on the internet. It?s all about letting people know about the products or services you can offer them and the internet is a perfect medium for doing so. So you should create your own website for the business.
Make sure your content is clear, concise and easy to navigate. Of course, you can hire a professional web designer or even learn HTML but this isn?t necessary. Consider website builders like Webs or Moonfruit as they provide free templates. However, it?s best to hire a graphic artist for professional logos and banners.
Start off with a homepage, an ?about? page and a ?contact? page. It?s worth buying a domain to indicate professionalism but make sure to create a website address which is easy to remember.
2) Take Advantage Of Social Media
The next step is to set up a Facebook page, Twitter account and blog. Make sure your business has a presence on prominent social media networks to accumulate followers. For consistency, use the logo and banners used on your website.
You should also look at websites such as LinkedIn and Pinterest. You could also search for forums that are based on your clientele. For example, if you sell clothes, look at fashion forums. Linking your business on forums and social media networks increases your business? social media presence and is a great advertising scheme.
3) Set Up A Newsletter
Employ email marketing software such as Mailchimp to set up a newsletter for clients, colleagues, and other persons of interest. Include interesting pictures and links to all your business? social media sites.
However, you should also make sure that you include a clear ?unsubscribe? button and never email clients who haven?t personally opted-in to the newsletter. You should also make sure that you?re consistent with mailing times i.e. weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly?
4) Set Up An E-Market
Many people love the ease of buying online which saves time and money. Consider websites such as Etsy or Amazon which allow a customer to browse hundreds of items at the click of a mouse.
If you sell products, create your own clearly-categorised e-market on e-commerce software. You can also attract customers with offers and discounts. If you create an e-market on your business? website, also make sure to add a F.A.Q page (Frequently Asked Questions.) A F.A.Q page contains contact details and answers to questions about returns, refunds and delivery charges.
5) Add Little Extras
Consider extras such as guest-books and online competitions to engage customers. You could even add customer testimonies on your website. If your service allows it, you could create your own promotional videos. Consider GHD?s Youtube channel which presents styling advice in a visual format.
As you can see, it?s all about creating an online presence for your business and entering the world of internet browsing. By reaching a wider audience, results are bound to be reaped.
