In the dueling?presidential campaigns? continuing effort to show who is or isn?t supported by small businesses, Obama For America today launched ?Hispanic Small Businesses For Obama,? ??highlighting Florida small businesses that support the president.
Their support, the campaign argues, results from?President Barack Obama?s efforts to ?cut taxes for small businesses 18 times, supported loans to 9,000 Hispanic-owned small businesses, and awarded Hispanic-owned businesses $11 billion in federal contracts in fiscal year 2010.?
The position counters the big Republican push in recent weeks accusing Obama of not supporting or understanding small businesses. The campaign of Republican candidate Mitt Romney has introduced a long list of small business owners in recent weeks who expressed outrage by Obama?s July 13 comment in Virginia, ?You didn?t build that,? which he contended referred to government-supplied infrastructure, but which Republicans said referred to the small businesses themselves.
The campaign says the group will be a part of a network that will be engaged with small business owners and helping communicate with others.
Enter Hector Bauz?, 52, owner of the??Bauz? and Associates marketing firm in Orlando, one of the charter members of HSBOFO.
?When I saw that (Republican response to Obama?s comment,) I knew it was a manipulation of the message,??he said. ?Obama would never say something that puts down small business.?
Bauz?, whose 10-year-old company has offices in Connecticut, Orlando and Puerto Rico, with 17 employees, said?for his perspective?Obama gives the best chance for tax breaks and affordable health insurance his company needs.
He said there is a place for a Hispanic small business campaign for Obama because?one distinction between many Hispanic businesses?and ?other small businesses is a tradition for deep community roots. He also noted that Hispanics are far more likely than many other ethnic groups to start their own business, as shown in a recent U.S. Census report.
