?The ECCB Small Business Management Workshop called twenty-two small business owners to the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Building on Thursday 13th June 2013 for their graduation ceremony.
The Chamber of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank hosted the ECCB Small Business Management Workshop in St. Kitts and after the rave reviews and the successful turn out, the workshop was also hosted on the island of Nevis. The workshop was hosted with the intention of uniting small business owners on the island and guiding them through the best way of not only improving their businesses but also to educate the owners on how to promote their business.
At the closing ceremony, Corporate Relations Department Advisor and facilitator, Sybil Welsh outlined the importance of small businesses to the economy ?When we talk about small business it is not small business as static where you are small, because in nature there is growth, and the vision for us is how do we move from small to medium and from medium to large,? she stated. ?That?s what this engagement is about and the collaboration we?ve been able to form with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce that partnered with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the private sector, in terms of your facilitators?.
?As a representative of the ECCB we are proud to see what is happening because focusing on maintaining a stable currency, the EC currency, and focusing on maintaining a stable financial system for the region requires economic activity and economic activity which is sustainable and for businesses that drive economic activity,? explained Ms Welsh. ?The small businesses are important in this food chain, if there are no small businesses that are sustainable and prosperous then so will be the fate of medium sized and large businesses?.? Ms Welsh stated that although there is still more work to be done with the small businesses, this is a step in the right direction. She congratulated the participants on this milestone.? ?We have a lot of work to do and part of that work is to continue the relationship with our mentoring, nurturing and consultation,? she stated. ?When you celebrate, what that does is to pivot you to move forward to greater success. We want to congratulate you in what you have achieved so far in finishing the workshop?.
Chairman of the Nevis Division of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Ernie France also shared similar sentiments as Ms Welsh and congratulated the participants on the momentous occasion where they have improved and promoted their businesses. ?Small businesses play an important role in the economy of any country because there are more small businesses than large businesses and the private sector, they say, drives the growth in the economy,? he stated. ?You have been equipped with the skills and I am sure that you would be able to put them to good use as you embark on your own businesses.?
The closing ceremony officially concluded with the presentation of certificates where Chairman of the Nevis Division of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Ernie France and Malvie James awarded the participants with their certificate of participation for the ECCU Small Business Management Workshop.
